Artificial Intelligence – An Introduction

 What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?

With the advent of computers and machines, humans are depending on these technologies exponentially. A branch of Computer Science named Artificial Intelligence implements the creation of computers or machines as intelligent as human beings.

The father of Artificial Intelligence -- John McCarthy defines it as:

"The science and engineering of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs"

AI is the study of how a human brain functions, thinks, behaves, and solves different problems in certain situations.

The goal of AI is to mimic the human completely into a robot that can learn, think, work, and act like humans.

Applications of AI:

Gaming:

AI plays an important role in the gaming sector as lets the machines think of a large number of possible solutions, moves, and positions based on deep knowledge in strategic goals. Examples of such games are tic-tac-toe, chess, poker, river-crossing, ludo, and n-queens.

Speech and Voice Recognition:

Intelligent systems are made capable of hearing the languages in terms of sentences, and their meanings while a human talks to them. It can even detect and recognise accent, voice tone, change in voice, noise, or slang words.

AI is applied in Astrology to solve complex universe problems. It is helping astronomy to grow by self-discovering galaxies, analysis of astronomical data pixel by pixel to identify and classify new galaxies and stars, status updates, and more.

AI is vastly being used in healthcare to diagnose diseases intelligently, prescribe medicines, track health, and advise solutions.

There is no field left where AI has not been applicable, let it be social media platforms, data security, travel and transport, workplaces, robotics, entertainment, agriculture, e-commerce, education, and a lot more to mention. With this being told, discussing each of these fields in detail relating it to the AI is a separate discussion.

Benefits and detriments of AI:

AI offers lots of benefits such as:

·        Human errors are reduced

·        Take risks instead of humans

·        Repetitive jobs made easy

·        Faster decisions

·        Innovations

·        Assistive applications

With so much more benefits to mention, there exist a few detriments of AI such as:

·        Humans are more dependable on technology

·        Human’s importance is reduced as they are being replaced

·        Creation cost is high

·        Reducing jobs

·        Emotional context is wearing out

·        Creativity gap

To conclude, it is evident that AI will take over the industry within no time. With researchers and professionals working keenly to devote their services to the field of AI it is no doubt that it will be the field of the future.
